Middle Earth Meme - Day Eighteen

The Hobbit character you relate to the most

Hands down, Bilbo Baggins. He's a home-body who has a previously undiscovered love for adventure. A quiet and peace-loving, yet strong and brave in the face of danger little fellow with unmeasurable love for his friends. He loves his books and his armchair and all the comforts of home, but he has (after the Hobbit, at least) an itch to get outdoors and explore. I want to see mountains, Gandalf, mountains! He may complain a bit if the food isn't what he's used to at Bag End, or if there's a dirty fat root sticking into his back (look, I know that was Sam, but it works), but he will put up with anything he has set his mind on doing. He doesn't give up, even in the face of failure. And, hobbits are particularly light on their feet. :)

Oh look, he even matches my blog!

Blessings,
Reyna

  1. I tried to comment, but I'm not sure it went through so here I go again...

While I didn't think "The Hobbit" trilogy was quite as good as "The Lord of the Rings," my favorite part about it was Martin Freeman's portrayal of Bilbo. He did such a fantastic job and I can't imagine anyone else playing that character!

Also: I wanted to drop in and let you know I nominated you for the "Blogger Recognition Award!" I'm sorry I don't get around to commenting on here as often as I'd like to (I'm going to try to remedy that), but I do think your blog is lovely!

    1. Thanks so much! I always love getting comments from you - it really makes my day. :) Yes, I completely agree that the Hobbit movies weren't as good as the Lord of the Rings ones, but I still enjoyed them immensely. Martin Freeman as Bilbo and Richard Armitage as Thorin were, in my humble opinion that is, perfect casting choices, and that made it much better than it could have been. Considering all the things I *didn't* like. I doubt I could have hated it anyway, though, considering all the 'sentimental value' it holds for me!

  2. Oh man, he DOES match your blog! How perfect!

I am agog over Martin Freeman's performance. Simply agog! So nuanced and deep. I like Bilbo so very much after these movies, and I only ever kind of thought he was okay before, so I'm quite indebted to Martin Freeman and Peter Jackson for what they did with the character. And I like how you've described him here! Very nice.
