Battle of the Five Armies Trailer Breakdown - Part Two

        Continuing from Friday's post...

        Yeah, go Peter Jackson!

        Bilbo throwing a rope down over the cliff outside of the lonely mountain, and jumping down. Is this *SPOILER* where he takes the Arkenstone to Thranduil? *END SPOILER* 

Bilbo is right. You cannot see what you have become. - Dwalin

        At this point, I completely lost it. Here is Dwalin, basically Thorin's right hand man, realizing that his friend, his mentor, his king, has lost his mind to the dragon sickness. Thorin has spiraled into insanity, the same obsession over the gold that drove his grandfather mad, and it breaks Dwalin's heart to see where this is leading. It's especially heartbreaking because he to is of royal lineage, although not directly in line for the throne like Fili and Kili. He realizes that without Thorin, they have nothing, no home, no king, no nothing. And, the way Thorin is acting, chances are they won't even have their lives after a while if he keeps leading them down this path. Thorin, who held their group together throughout years of exile and wandering all over Middle Earth, is no longer an able leader, or friend, or anything. He tries to bring Thorin back, but it doesn't work.

        Why put two absolutely heartwrenching scenes right back to back? Did they want me to be gasping for breath and sobbing my heart out in the kitchen? 'Cause I was. Thorin can't quite realize what he's doing, he can't tell that he is driven by madness. But still, the reason he is doing all of this (no matter how wrong the way is he is doing it) is so that his nephews, his boys, will grow up in a prosperous dwarven nation as the rulers. Everything he did, he did for them. For Fili. For Kili. For his sister's sons. For his boys.

        These look like Thranduil's soldiers gathering in front of Erebor.

 

         He's such a fluffy bear! But he's not my Thorin anymore. Bring back my Thorin!

You started this. You will forgive me if I finish it. - Thranduil

        Did Gandalf start it by initiating the Quest for Erebor? Or in some other way we don't know yet?

        This is the Battle of the Five Armies. The last battle in Middle Earth to be waged on screen. 

         My question here is, what are they firing at? Something on the mountainside?

        Thorin and Kili (and supposedly some other dwarves as well) overlooking the valley in between Erebor and Dale.  Also, if you enlarge the picture - you can see it more clearly in the trailer itself - there is a rider on a white horse going away from them. Not sure who that is.

When faced with death, what can anyone do? - Bilbo

        Nothing but fight. And die a noble death. Because it looks as though that's going to be the outcome, at this point.

        Here's the mystery place. Obviously it's going to play somewhat of a pivotal role in this last movie, as they feel the need to show it so much.

        Is this what death looks like? I am reminded of the Battle of Pelennor Fields, where only a handful of people survived. Is it going to be like that? Utter destruction? Like when even the victors have only a few survivors? NOOOOO!!!! It's going to be like the first attempt to take back the mountain, when Thror was killed by Azog (in the movie) and Thorin earned the name Oakenshield.

          Here's that white horse again. And there are so many parallels with Pelennor Fields!

        To see Kili, whose hero was his uncle, now turning against him, is as sad as anything else. But he has no choice about it if he wants to do the right thing. It's heartbreaking, though, because it shows just how far Thorin has gone that even Kili turns against him. 

        This is Bard, almost dying.And this is the black arrow!!!

        Why are they still here when the dragon is still on the loose and spewing fire everywhere? (This was a logical question I formulated after I got over the worst of the crying and watched the trailer over again).

        Nope. Not ready. I said I couldn't wait, and I can't, but at the same time I can't bear to think that it will be over. 

        Is this his runestone? The one that says 'return to me'? *SOBBING*

        Yuck.

 

        Batses.

        This confused me. Is Thranduil trying to kill Tauriel?!?!

Battle of the Five Armies Trailer Breakdown - Part One

        By breakdown I mean that I'm going to rave about basically every frame of this two minute thirty second long trailer. And it also means that when I watched it I had a breakdown and was crying in the kitchen in front of God and everyone. Because of what happens and because it's the last Middle Earth movie ever. From what it looks like, though, it's going to be one of the best. And I didn't have high hopes until I saw the trailer. Now, ASDFGHJKL *UNCONTROLLABLE SOBBING*!!!!!

        A friend emailed it to me and that was how I saw it first. We were getting ready for a party and rushing around doing all sorts of stuff, but I saw this and dropped everything. I think I remember letting out a strangled squeal and grasping for the headphones while I clicked play. And then...

        Just this. I was shaking and I just about lost it here. Like, guys, this is it. The last trailer. The last trailer EVER. And this was just so eerie and yeah. Stuff. I was going crazy already, so didn't have many logical thoughts at this point.

        They're in Erebor. The dragon's gone. So they re-grouped and Thorin went down to look over his gold and muse?

Thorin, you gave a promise. - Bilbo

        So Thorin's going back on something, we know that. At this point, his gaze shifts away from Bilbo (who's talking to him) and off into the distance. He's not really listening. The dragon sickness is getting him. NOOOO!!! *tears well up in my eyes*

        Oh my wordy. It's happened. Fire. Destruction. Death. Everywhere. *fights tears back*

        Bard. No one listened to him, and now he's seeing his home destroyed. He doesn't want what happened to his grandfather to happen to him.

You brought upon them only ruin and death. - Bard

        He knows it's true. He knows it was wrong, but the mountain is his once again and he is not looking back.

        The company of Thorin Oakenshield. They accomplished what they set out to do, but also what they did not want to do. They are looking to Thorin for instruction, but can see that he is cracking. *face contorts and squeezes eyes shut*

You've won the mountain, is that not enough? - Bilbo

        *tears spill over* This was their home. What they dreamed for. What they journeyed from the ends of Middle Earth for. What they fought for. What they ran for. What they will die for. And it's all coming crashing down. The statues of the dwarf lords are gone. I think Thorin begins to realize that their quest was, after all, in vain. But he doesn't want to admit it, even to himself.

        Not quite sure about this. I'm pretty sure it's Dale (can't be Laketown), but why is there light coming from it? Did the people come from Laketown to Dale to flee from Smaug?

Now, we defend it. - Thorin

        Hey, Thranduil's here, and Bard too. They're assembling for battle.

        The great King Under the Mountain. I wish they would put Fili closer to Thorin since he is the heir to the throne rather than Kili. But there's so much extra stuff about Kili, so they make him more important. 

        We've seen this shot before.

I came to reclaim something of mine. - Thranduil

        Does he mean the Arkenstone? Ugh, don't fight against the Dwarves, please! And Thorin, be sensible! Don't give in to the dragon sickness!!! You are not your grandfather!

        This December. Is it that time already? I've waited so long for this, and yet after, it will be over. It's our last trip to Middle Earth. NOOOO!!!! *crying*

        A master plan by Sauron/the Necromancer? Azog? Who? And all of those orcs and goblins... The dwarves have no chance. They'll be smushed!

         Where are they going in to? Is it the Lonely Mountain? There's fire down there, but the dragon left... I know they're not putting in here *SPOILER* that Smaug gets killed *SPOILER ENDS* for that exact reason, but I'm wondering at what point in this whole sequence that happens.

         I took extra screencaps of this place because I have no idea where it is! I ran through a bunch of places in my mind and I can't think of where it might be.

These bats are bred for one purpose - for war. - Legolas

        So apparently these are bats, not crows. And Legolas's face looks really good here - not as fake as in DOS.

        Why are Gandalf and Galadriel here? And are those statues or armored soldiers around them? WAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIT. Are those the ringwraiths? Guys! There are NINE.

        Wut.

        Yup, that's Sauron all right.

        Hopefully most people have made the connection by now.

Wide Load

         Eponine, being more than four months along and perhaps only a week away from kidding, is quite the fat little thing. She spends her days eating and dozing, and occasionally going for walks with her Mama. I should take her more often, but I haven't had the time! Anyway, she is enjoying all the rest immensely and has developed a bit of an attitude when she doesn't want to do what I tell her. She is an ornery little beast.

         I finished the stanchion part on her milking stand last week and am just getting my birthing kit together now. I can't wait for the little goatlings to come! Hopefully it won't be too cold by then - I might have to knit the babies some sweaters! I am praying that she'll have a safe first kidding and that we'll have a whole bunch of fluffy goat babies running around. In the meantime, Darlin', get some rest!
